Haiti Earthquake Response
How you can help:
Doctors Without Borders is in need of monetary donations to help the sick and injured who are in desperate need of emergency care as conditions are getting worse by the hour.
Both Alexander Skarsgård and SkarsgårdNews.com are putting out a call for help from the fans. Please give as generously as you can at this specific, secure donation page that Doctors Without Borders has set up for the emergency response in Haiti. If you do not feel comfortable giving money via the internet, they also have a toll free number 1-888-392-0392.
Update: I wanted to let you all know that I am continually awed by the generosity of my readers. The response I’ve received to our call to action has done it again. Those who are donating and spreading the word are amazing. I have no way to be certain, but a rough estimate of the donations have totaled at least $9,900. I just wanted to thank you all for your kindness as well as pass on a message directly from Alexander to all of you:
“I am moved by the way you guys have reached out to help people in desperate need. I really do have the best fans in the world. Tack, tack, tack..”
Note: Tack is the Swedish word for thanks.
Pssst: You all still amaze me! ♥ Let’s keep going.

Team Human needs Team Eric! Hoo Ya!!!! Lil you have BBB’s full support and pimping skills at your service!
I knew I could count on the BBB. Thanks, Lil2.
And it you see this tweeted on my twitter @skarsgardnews, please RT this as much as possible.
I donated $20. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti.
Thank you for posting this! I’ve been in love with Doctors Without Borders for so long, they are truly an amazing group of people.
Apparently, this is the organization to give to. I saw the woman who heads up this organization speak on t.v. last night. They have a great reputation and they make sure the money goes to the people, and not into politicians pockets, etc. Apparently, over the years, there have been ongoing problems with money donated thorough other charities going into people’s pockets and never getting to the people that need it. Our school is organizing a relief effort and I hope that they are going to donate what they collect to Doctors Without Borders.
DWB goes infield, they are 100% hands on with the people in need, They save lives. It’s an amazing organization. Lil and Alex couldn’t have made a better choice.
Well done for supporting this cause and highlighting it to us. I’ve just added my donation from here in the UK.
This is really amazing. I actually donated twice yesterday. The first was in class… There are 225 of us in my med school class and a few cups were passed around for people to give change…People were putting in $20 bills, etc and we donated over $700 just from that. When I got home I heard that the Canadian government is going to match donations to registered charities and donated $100 moreto MSF.
MSF had 3 hospitals in Haiti but 1 has been completely destroyed and the other 2 are structurally unsound. People have fractures and crush injuries and other major traumas and they’re working out of tents. They’re looking for a building that is safe and clean enough for them to do surgery.
I’m so glad people are supporting MSF!
As a fundraiser who works for a health system, this opportunity was very meaningful to me. I would have made the gift in Alex’s honor, but the online form did not allow for that. I have also made a gift to World Vision to help in the relief efforts. Thanks to Skarsgard News and to Alex for asking us to help make a difference.
[...] Skarsgard News and saw my chance. Alexander and AS News have teamed up to ask fans to make a donation to Doctors Without Borders. I contacted Lilja and asked her how I could help. I have always admired what DWB has stood for and accomplished all over the world. They truly make a difference to every life they touch. Lilja asked me to whip out my pimp hat and spread the news, so that is exactly what I am doing. [...]

Donated $20 from my end :]
I’ll see about donating more in the following days. A big thanks to Alex and AS News for teaming up to put this into action. You guys are really wonderful human beings.
Let’s raise money for Haiti!!
What a wonderful organization for Alex and AS News to support. I made my donation and texted a donation as well. I cannot believe the stupid public comments made by some pretty visible people condemning the Haitians like they deserved it. Those idiots deserve to be publicly chastised for such inhumane comments. Americans should be proud of the contributions they make to aid those who desperately need it.
The hubs and I had been doing a lot of research on the right charities to donate to, and we kept coming up with DWB/MSF. This really tipped my hand, though, so thanks for posting. I know my $50 is going to a good place!
Just made a $100 donation. God bless the people who work for DWB. I wish there was more that I could do than just donate money. This is a great cause and I hope everyone that can will donate.
Wow! AS fans are the best in the world!
I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this website <3 <3 <3
I donated last night. Couldn’t afford very much but I know every little bit helps from all of us and I can donate more next week. I’m unemployed but at least I’m alive and safe and know where my family and friends are and have a roof over my head. I’d been watching the news since this happened & was so unsure what was reliable to donate to that wouldn’t get tied up in bureaucracy. Thanks to Skarsgard News for helping me to make that decision. I’ve been forwarding your tweets and have posted the link to DWB on my Facebook page.
Thank you so much for choosing to support Doctors Without Borders! I’m a member of this organization and couldn’t be happier that AS fans, including me, have been so generous!
It would be an amazing goal if all the subscribers here would donate even $20 cause if we could reach at least $10,000 on this site alone, that would be really something.
will donate when I get home tonight.
I just want to add my support to MSF/DWB and what they do. They are a fantastic organization and don’t have any governmental affiliations and they are funded primarily by private donations. As a result they can move quickly and often go to places that other aid organizations cannot go to because of bureaucracy and politics. I hope to be able to devote at least a year of my life working with them. I didn’t hesitate when I saw the link.
Come on Skarsgirls, lets get to $10,000 !! I’m going to donate another $100 tomorrow. What ever you can, just do it. We all have different levels and it all adds up.
It always feels good to help out in some sort of way. By donating on this website in AS name feels even better.
Great cause, great charity, great site, great man. Skarsgirls rule. =)
I already made a donation at a local grocery store from this paycheck but I am committing $25 from my next one. I work and live in South Florida, I count several Haitians as my co-workers and friends, my heart aches for them. We have one friend in particular we are concerned for. He cannot reach anyone in Haiti and it is driving him to distraction. He is beside himself with fear and anguish.
What the people of Haiti are facing right now is beyond what most people can fathom. I listened live yesterday as a local news reporter described helping to dig someone out of the rubble. She went there to report the news and because the situation is so horrendous and devastating people are abandoning their jobs of reporting to save lives and protect those who are helpless. Imagine the worst possible scenario and multiply it by 100 and then multiply it by another 100 and then maybe we will come close to what is it like over there. My prayers continue for the people of Haiti and for all those who have dropped everything to go there and help. And to this amazing group of people I an proud to call myself a Skarsgirl, you all have given of yourselves not in the name of Alex but because you KNOW it was the right thing to do. Bravo!
Just donated. Great job at spreading the word for such an important cause.
I have to share. So we are knee deep into the Vampire Author Auction and I had one of my bidders mention after her bid she also sent in a donation to MSF/DWB!! I can’t believe the generosity flowing out of the SVM/TB Alex lovin’ community! Ya’ll rock my world!
I donated today and felt like my small contribution will make a large difference in somebody’s life in Haiti who have lost so much already. Us ASkars-girls can make a difference if we all help pitch in in whatever way we can. Me n hubs also donated again to the Red Cross and hope that helps in whichever way it can. It’s awesome to see everybody coming together and that Lilja was able to help organize this and that Alex is 100% behind this and gives us his appreciation
$70 from me.
Thank-you for posting this. Anytime anything like this happens, I always want to help, but don’t really know how. I just wish I could go down there and help in person!
Close up of the ribbon to support Haiti that Alexander Skarsgård wore to the Golden Globes this year.
I’m really glad he wore the ribbon :] Lol is it weird to say that I’m really proud of his support?
Well, I finally got around to donating. I was holding off because I was trying to get my company to donate a considerable amount seeing as they helped with Hurricane Katrina, but that’s fallen through which I’m really disappointed about. But it’s nice to see so many of us contributing. Thanks to everyone who was involved in arranging this.
Delurking to say how wonderfull it is to see how much people are contributing and how big the support is from us Alex fans. I do believe ‘Artsen zonder grenzen’ is a great organization, during med school I thought about joinging the organization but in the end decided not to. I admire all the people that did decided to leave their home and family to travel the world to help these people in need. In times like these I feel I should be out there.
The word “thank you” in swedish and norwegian is spelled tak, NOT tack, as in tic tack toe.
I wish I could volunteer to help doctors without borders. I’m a registered nurse and I know that there simply isn’t enough medical help or supplies to help these people. Does anyone know how to contact doctros without borders to volunteer as a registered nurse?
Candy, I found the link for people who want to volunteer:
http://doctorswithoutborders.org/work/field/?ref=main-menu
I hope that helps. And good luck! I hope you can make it. In times like this I wish I had a profession like yours, that could be of good use for all those people.
@Candy: Infact, it IS spelled Tack =),. Really admirable of you to want to go to help!
Tack is Thank You in Swedish… Norwegian I don’t know. I don’t think Alex or all my Swedish friends would all misspell it at the same time. lol
Just sent in my donation. Sorry it took me a few days to find my credit card. DWB is my favorite international relief organization and I give to them multiple times a year. So proud to see Alex supporting them. I knew I was a fan for a good reason!
Often, when tragedy strikes with such horrific need is brought to everyone’s attention, the media and (sadly) individuals use the opportunity to sensationalize for publicity.
NOT SO for SKARSGARD NEWS. You’re always on top of things and eager to help!
I sincerely appreciate your thorough coverage of things (and of course – all things Alex) and the way you often set the record straight.
Thank you for your dedication and creativity…and most of all – for caring.
DrSyl ~
Don’t have a credit/debit card so I setup a direct debit so MSF gets a regular payment every month. It may not go specifically to this cause but it will go to those that need it.
It took a week to get sorted as I forgot the security question for internet banking, darn it. My favourite things change every week except for certain actors. That’s never been a security question. That I would remember
Thanks you DrSyl and all the other doctors/medical professionals out there who risk their lives and health to do what they do.
Jam, that is a fantastic idea! <3 <3 <3
Jenn, it’s not late… it might just be right on time.
To all of you who donated, I love your hearts!
Keep up the great work and being the caring individuals you are and spread the word! XOXOXO
Just in case some of you would like an update on how things are going: http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/news/article.cfm?id=4191&cat=field-news
“Providing for these surgical and medical needs will take months…”
The world’s eyes are looking at the country for the first time in years and may be life can become better for everyone off the back of this. This disaster has highlighted just how poor the country is. They had little infrestructure and resources for dealing with a disaster like this. That the medical recovery of people there will take months means that they have the opportunity to set up better health care once the immediate crisis is over. Perhaps there is a chance for every day life to improve once the immediate repurcussions of this disaster have been dealt with, and not just from a medical perspective.
I’m in no way dismissing the tradgedy of the events in Haiti but hoping that long term good may come of it.
Thank you for gving an update.
No matter how bad my day’s been and how awful the people I may have had to deal with, coming on here and seeing people who don’t know one another and may have nothing in common other than an appreciation of an actor will unite to help out those in need is heartening and makes me feel good.
I’m so proud of being a part of this community! You are all admirable people, with so big hearts! I’ve finally gotten my paycheck, so now I’ve made my donation, here from Sweden, too! =)
Puss å kram
Sent my donation in last week. Today my work announced that they would match any donation and employee makes. I was like great and printed out my reciept to hand in. One problem my work will only match donations to American Red Cross and Clinton/Bush Haiti fund. Oh well. Trying to convince them to add DWB to their list.
